When: SUNDAY MAY 26th 2024 - Arrive by 8:30am - RAIN OR SHINE
Where: Houston National Cemetery 10410 Veterans Memorial Dr. Houston Texas 77038
Volunteer Instructions
WATER – NOT provided – Please bring your own water
PARKING - You may park in the cemetery but DO NOT block roads. Arrive 10 min early and be patient with the car in front of you.
Bring:
Ruler to measure 12" from headstones (Paint stick works well)
Screw Driver to make pilot hole to sink flag 5"
9AM SHARP - Be at our section: Meet at the yellow flag totes - NO EARLY STARTS!
Leaders hand out flags - DO NOT Help Yourself
FIRST - People with loved ones in that section - ALWAYS GO FIRST
NEXT - Volunteers registered for that section receive flags
THEN - Anyone else may receive flags
HOW TO:
Place FLAGS 12" from headstone – CENTERED – and SINK 5" in ground
Do NOT PUSH down on TOPS of Flags – they WILL BREAK
FLAGS – ONLY GO in FRONT of headstones – NEVER behind – for any reason
COLUMBARIUMS – 1 FLAG in front of each column
Sink Flags in the edge of the GRASS, where it meets the pavement
NEVER MOVE anything at a grave. Place your FLAG next to any objects
SAY EACH VETERANS NAME as you place a flag – THANK THEM for their service!
Please – help other areas until cemetery is complete
RETURN ALL Unused FLAGS & Rubber bands – We recycle & reuse all Flags
GOOD, Unused FLAGS – put in one tote
RUBBER BANDS – place on top of the Good, unused Flags
DAMAGED FLAGS – put in a separate tote
PLEASE – DO NOT TAKE FLAGS HOME – we pay for every single flag!
Pick up any TRASH Please – ALWAYS leave our cemetery in PRISTINE condition
